Jaag Utha Insan is a social family drama. The movie revolves around a wealthy upper-caste man named Mahant Chaturvedi, who wishes to get his daughter married to someone in his own caste. However, when she marries a lower-caste man named Gopi, he breaks all ties with her. Later, Gopi tries to mend his relationships with Mahant, by presenting his talented dancer daughter Sandhya (Sridevi) to him. Mahant blesses and accepts Sandhya, and wishes her to get married to a boy named Nandu (Rakesh Roshan), whom he adopted. However, Sandhya is in love with someone, but for her grandfather’s happiness, she married Nandu, only to realise he has some secret. What is it that Nandu has been hiding from his foster father and now to his wife?
