Ameen Sayani was one of India’s iconic radio broadcasters who revolutionized the art of radio presentation. His voice was synonymous during the golden era of radio where he hosted the popular songs countdown show 'Binaca Geetmala' which was broadcast for over 42 years since going on air in 1952 over Radio Ceylon and later over Vividh Bharati. He produced, compiled and presented over 70,000 radio programmes and spots/jingles since 1951. He presented many popular Hindi movies in the 70s, 80s and 90s of which some were Sargam, Mr. Natwarlal, Kaalia, Saagar, Andaz Apna Apna, etc. He appeared in cameos in films as announcer, commentator and interviewer in movies like Teen Devian, Bhoot Bungla, Aan Baan, Boxer, Qatl, Hamara Khandan, Pati Patni Aur Tawaif and others. He died on 20 February 2024 in Mumbai at the age of 91.
