Jayant Sawarkar was a veteran actor who worked in Marathi and Hindi films along with theatre and television. Born in 1936 in Guhagar, Maharashtra, he started acting in theatre plays at the age of twenty of which some of his famous plays were 'Aparadh Meich Kela', 'Apurankank', 'Alibaba Chalis Chor', 'Aladdin Jaducha Diva', 'Aamhi Jagato Befam', and 'Ekach Pyaala'. Some of his notable appearances in Marathi films include ‘Hari Om Vithala’, ‘Gadbad Gondhal’, ‘66 Sadashiv’, and ‘Bakaal’, while his Hindi films were, ‘Ghulam-E-Musthafa’, ‘Yugpurush’, ‘Vaastav’, ‘Ek Hasina Thi’, ‘Singham’, ‘Rocky Handsome’ and ‘Sooryavanshi’. He died at the age of 87 in Mumbai on 24 July 2023.
