Amrit is a family drama. The movie revolves around a widower, Amrit (Rajesh Khanna), and a widow, Kamla (Smita Patil). Since the death of their respective spouses, the two have been ill-treated by their families. However, they find solace with each other, and their bond strengthens over the time, as they relate with each other's problems. When things get out of hand, the two decide to leave their families and live together. The question remains, will the society and their families accept this relationship and let them live peacefully?
