Biwi Ho To Aisi is a family comedy drama. The movie revolves around an affluent upper-class Bhandari family, which was dominated by the matriarch, Kamla (Bindu), while her stay-at-home husband Kailash (Kader Khan) was a ghar jamai. Kamla wanted her son, Suraj (Farooq Shaikh), to marry a rich girl, but on contrary, Suraj falls in love with a village belle, Shalu (Rekha). Kamla gets furious with this, and tries her best to eliminate Shalu from their lives, by giving her a hard time. Shalu tries her best to be a dutiful daughter-in-law, but after several failed attempts to impress Kamla, she decides to give it back in her own style. Will Kamla finally realize her mistake and accept Shalu as her daughter-in-law?
