Farooq Sheikh was an Indian actor, who was active in Hindi cinema from the 1970s to the early 2000s. He started his acting career with television and also performed on stage. He started his career in Bollywood with the 1973 drama Garm Hava, directed by M. S. Sathyu. He has acted in some successful films like Shatranj Ke Khiladi (1977), Noorie (1979), Chashme Baddoor (1981), Umrao Jaan (1981), Saath Saath (1982), Ek Baar Chale Aao (1983), Katha (1983), Ab Aayega Mazaa (1984), Faasle (1985) and Maya Memsaab (1993). He appeared in the 2010 sports film Lahore, and his role in the movie earned him the National Film Award for Best Supporting Actor. He was married to Roopa Sheikh and the couple has two children.
