Dev.D is a romantic black comedy. It is a modern-day take on Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay’s classic Bengali novel Devdas. It revolves around three protagonists Devendra 'Dev' Singh (Abhay Deol), Parminder 'Paro' (Mahie Gill), and Leni/Chanda (Kalki Koechlin). Dev, a London-returned young man, is reunited with his childhood love Paro. However, affected by rumours about Paro’s character Dev abandons her. Paro marries a man of her parent’s choice. On the day of her marriage, Dev realizes his mistake but it was too late. Affected by the loss, Dev takes refuge in drugs and alcohol. Soon he bumps into Chanda. Leni, or professionally known as Chanda, was a victim of the MMS sex scandal and was abandoned by her family. She chose prostitution as her profession. Dev finds solace in Chanda and seeks to start his life with her, but will he be able to accept her with the reality of her profession?
