Souten is a romantic musical drama. The movie follows the story of a young man named Shyam (Rajesh Khanna), who belongs to a middle-class family. Shyam falls in love with a beautiful girl named Rukmani (Tina Munim), who is a daughter of a millionaire. Everything goes well in the start, but their married life starts to deteriorate eventually. Later, Shyam meets another girl named Radha (Padmini Kohlapure), and amidst her troubling married life, he finds solace with Radha. How Radha and Shyam’s relationship affects their married life forms the rest of the plot.
