Shashikala Jawalkar, better known by her first name Shashikala, was an Indian actress, who started her acting career in the early 1940s. She mostly appeared in small supporting roles or character roles in movies. She made her debut in Bollywood with a small role in the 1944 film Chand. She has acted in movies like Phool Aur Patthar (1966), Pardesi Babu (1998), Baadshah (1999), Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham (2001), Chori Chori (2003), Mujhse Shaadi Karogi (2004) and Rakht (2004). She was married to Om Prakash Saigal, who was related to singer-actor K. L. Saigal, and the couple had two daughters. In 2007, she was honoured with Padma Shri by the Government of India for her contributions to Indian cinema.
