Babla Mehta was a playback singer and composer who primarily worked in Bollywood films. He began his playback singing career in the late 1980s, when he got his first big break in Yash Chopra’s ‘Chandni’ in 1989 where he sang the duet – ‘Tere Mere Hoton Pe’ along with Lata Mangeshkar. He later collaborated with popular music directors like R.D. Burman, Nadeem-Shravan, Rajesh Roshan, Bappi Lahiri, Anu Malik, and others for films including ‘Dil Hi Ke Manta Nahin’ (1991), ‘Pyar Bhara Dil’ (1991), ‘Maa’ (1991), ‘Naamcheen’ (1991), ‘Sadak’ (1991), ‘Nazar’ (1991), ‘Beta’ (1992), ‘Tahalka’ (1992), ‘Janam Se Pehle’ (1994), ‘Pyar Ka Rog’ (1994), etc. His voice resembled that of the legendary Mukesh and specialized in bhajans and Indian classical music genres. He passed away in Mumbai on 22 July 2025.
