Dev Kohli was one of Bollywood’s popular lyricists who penned some of the most famous Hindi songs including Kabootar Ja Ja Ja, Aaja Shaam Hone Aayee (Maine Pyar Kiya), Yeh Kaali Kaali Aankhen (Baazigar), Maai Ni Maai (Hum Aapke Hain Koun..!), Chalti Hai Kya Nau Se Baarah (Judwaa), Dekho Dekho Jaanam Hum (Ishq), etc. Born in Rawalpindi (now Pakistan) 1942, he came to Mumbai in 1964 and got his first break as a lyricist in 1969 in the film Gunda. He struck fame with the superhit song Geet Gaata Hoon Main from Laal Patthar (1971). He wrote songs for over 100 films and worked with most of the popular Bollywood music directors including Shankar-Jaikishan, Laxmikant-Pyarelal, R. D. Burman, Anu Malik, Raam-Laxman, Anand Raaj Anand, Anand-Milind, Vishal-Shekhar, Uttam Singh, and others. He remained a bachelor all his life and breathed his last on 26 August 2023.
