Ravi Tandon was an actor, writer, producer, and director who was born in Agra in 1935. He started his Bollywood career in 1959 by appearing in small roles in films like Deep Jalta Rahe (1959) and Love in Simla (1960) where he was also an assistant director. He made his directorial debut in 1971 with the Manoj Kumar – Saira Banu starrer Balidan after which he went on to direct popular films like Anhonee (1973), Majboor (1974), Khel Khel Mein (1975), Zindagi (1976), Jhoota Kahin Ka (1979), Waqt Ki Deewar (1981), Khud-daar (1982), and Nazrana (1987). He had worked with Bollywood’s top stars of the 70s and 80s including Amitabh Bachchan, Sanjeev Kumar, Rajesh Khanna, Rishi Kapoor, Jeetendra, and Sridevi. He was suffering from lung fibrosis and passed away due to respiratory failure in Mumbai on 11 February 2022. He is survived by his wife Veena, actor-son Rajeev Tandon, and actress Raveena Tandon. Late actor Mac Mohan was his wife's brother.
