Ravi Khanna (Amitabh Bachchan) works in a travel agency and lives happily with his widowed mother (Sulochana), disabled sister (Farida Jalal) and younger brother (Alankar). All hell breaks loose when he realizes that he is suffering from a terminal brain tumor, and has only 6 months to live. The doctor advises him to go for a surgery but Ravi thinks otherwise and decides to take the blame of a murder, which he has not committed, and the murderer is unknown and is at large. Ravi collects the ransom of Rs. 5,00,000 that is announced by the victim's brother and hands it over to his family before going to jail. Ravi gets a stroke in jail and is rushed to the hospital where he is operated upon to extract the tumor. Ravi gets a new lease of life but now has to escape jail to prove his innocence.
