Set in the small town of Tehri, Uttarakhand state, Batti Gul Meter Chalu revolves around three childhood friends, Nauti (Shraddha Kapoor), SK (Shahid Kapoor), Tripathi (Divyendu Sharma). SK is good for nothing lawyer who secretly loves Nauti while Tripathi has set up his own factory who also loves Nauti. One fine day Tripathi gets an exorbitant electricity bill of Rs. 54 lacs for his factory which he is unable to pay that drives him to commit suicide. SK and Nauti join hands to drag the electricity department to court to get their friend justice.
