Deewaar is an action drama about two brothers, Ravi (Shashi Kapoor) and Vijay (Amitabh Bachchan) who are brought up by their mother single-handedly after a lot of struggle, humiliation and poverty. Vijay gives up studies and joins his mother to earn a livelihood and Ravi's education. After growing up, for a better living Vijay takes up smuggling while Ravi becomes a cop. Ravi is handed over Vijay's case while the mother chooses to stay with the former. Vijay tries to convince Ravi to take a transfer but the latter is dutybound to arrest him which leads to a confrontation as a wall of ideologies is built between them.
