Ghungroo is a social family drama. The movie follows the story of a young man named Vikram Singh (Shashi Kapoor), who is the administrator of the emperor (Waheeda Rehman). From the beginning, the empress treats Vikram like her son, and later, fixes his marriage with a woman from a royal family. However, things take a turn, when Vikram falls in love with a prostitute named Kesarbai (Smita Patil) and gets intimate with her. The two even have a baby girl, and get secretly married. The question remains, what will happen when the empress learns about Vikram and Kesarbai’s truth? Will she ever forgive Vikram?
