One of the most influential actresses of her time, Waheeda Rehman is the recipient of several awards. The government of India honoured her with Padma Shri in 1972 and Padma Bhushan in 2011 for her contributions to Indian cinema. She started her career in Bollywood with the 1956 crime thriller drama C.I.D., directed by Raj Khosla, alongside Dev Anand. The movie was a blockbuster and became the highest-grossing film of the year. Other important movies of her career are Pyaasa (1957), Kaagaz Ke Phool (1959), Sahib Biwi Aur Ghulam (1962), Guide (1965), Ram Aur Shyam (1967), Khamoshi (1970), Kabhi Kabhie (1976), Chandni (1989) and Lamhe (1991). She married actor Kamaljeet in 1974 and the couple had two children.
