Rang De Basanti is a musical drama. The movie narrates the story of a group of friends – Daljit ‘DJ’ Singh (Aamir Khan), Karan (Siddharth), Sukhi (Sharman Joshi), Sonia (Soha Ali Khan), and Aslam Khan (Kunal Kapoor). Sonia’s friend Sue McKinley (Alice Patten), a London-based film student, comes to India to make a film on the Indian freedom fighters. Sue meets Sonia's other friends and decides to cast them in the film. However, the shooting of the film awakens the sense of patriotism in the friends. When they learn about the death of their friend Ajay (R. Madhavan), a flight lieutenant, they turn into rebels and want to fight back to serve justice to their friends. The film thus covers the journey of these carefree friends to rebels for a cause.
