Kamal Haasan is an Indian actor, director, singer, dancer, writer and politician. The actor has predominantly worked in Tamil and Hindi movies. He started his career as a child actor in the 1960 Tamil movie Kalathur Kannamma. As an adult, he landed his first role in K. Balachander’s 1973 Tamil film Arangetram. In Bollywood, he started his career with Balachander’s Ek Duuje Ke Liye (1981). Other important movies of his career include Sanam Teri Kasam (1982), Sadma (1983), Yeh Desh (1984), Saagar (1985), Chachi 420 (1997), and many more. In 1978, he married the classic dancer, Vani Ganapathy, but their marriage was childless and ended in 1988. Same year, he married actress Sarika Thakur, with whom he has two daughters, actresses Shruti and Akshara Haasan, but the two got divorced in 2004. He was awarded Padma Shri in 1990 and Padma Bhushan in 2014 by the Indian Government for his contribution in Indian cinema.
