Amar Akbar Anthony is an action romantic family drama about Kishanlal (Pran) who works as a chauffeur for Robert (Jeevan). On Roberts request Kishanlal goes to jail for a crime that the former has committed but on return sees his family in a mess. Kishanlal seeks Roberts help only to be humiliated as he runs away with some of Roberts smuggled gold. In the process of escaping the clutches of Robert, Kishanlal is separated from his wife Bharti (Nirupa Roy) and three sons. Twenty-two years pass by as Kishanlal becomes a smuggler while his wife turns blind and his children – Amar (Vinod Khanna) becomes a police inspector, Akbar (Rishi Kapoor) becomes a qawwali singer and Anthony (Amitabh Bachchan) runs a small-time bar. After lots of twists and turns fate gets them back together as the family is united while the three brothers also happen to marry their love interests.
