Jaya Bachchan or Jaya Bhaduri is an Indian actress and politician. She started her acting career with the Bengali film Mahanagar (1963) directed by Satyajit Ray, which was followed by her Bollywood debut with Hrishikesh Mukherjee’s Hindi drama Guddi (1971). Her role in the movie earned her nomination for Filmfare Award for Best Actress. It was followed by her lead roles in successful movies like Uphaar (1971), Koshish (1972), Abhimaan (1973), Kora Kagaz (1974), Mili (1975), Sholay (1975), Nauker (1979), Silsila (1981), Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham… (2001), Kal Ho Naa Ho (2003) and Laaga Chunari Mein Daag (2007). In 1973, she married superstar Amitabh Bachchan, and they have a son, actor Abhishek Bachchan and a daughter, Shweta Bachchan. Actress Aishwarya Rai is her daughter-in-law.
