15 Bollywood Movies That Were Packed With Maximum Baddies

Bollywood movies are incomplete without a villain. Many think it’s easy to play a baddie on screen but it’s not because they have to look mean, bad, scary, and many times make you cringe. A time in the 90s came when lead actors wanted to play the villain because they felt it had more meat than the main lead and were happy getting branded as anti-heroes who went on to receive as much love as the lead actor in the film. While most of us rooted for the hero in a typical Bollywood movie but there have been a number of times when the villains of the film have grabbed our attention and their performances stayed with us for a long time. If one looks back at our Bollywood releases some of them had a number of villains who took on the hero single-handedly only to eat humble pie at the end. 1. Gaddaar (1973)

This Harmesh Malhotra directorial probably could have been one of the first Bollywood movies with multiple villains. Gaddaar was a money heist action crime drama that revolved around a bunch of goons played by Pran, Anwar Husain, Manmohan, Ram Mohan, Iftekhar, Madan Puri, and Ranjeet who rob a treasure but Madan Puri ditches them at the last moment to run away with it and start a new life with his family. The deceived lot set out to trace the traitor leading to an exciting climax. The film also starred Vinod Khanna and Yogeeta Bali as the lead.

2. Lootmaar (1980)

If there was a film that had the top 10 most popular villains in Bollywood it would have been Dev Anand’s Lootmaar which released in 1980. Though the lead cast comprised of Dev Anand, Rakhee Gulzar and Tina Munim but it was the gang of villains including Prem Chopra, Ranjeet, Shakti Kapoor, Kader Khan, Amjad Khan, Narendranath, Gulshan Arora, Simple Kapadia, and Kalpana Iyer, that stole the show.

3. Aandhi - Toofan (1985)

Who can forget B. Subhash’s action revenge drama Aandhi - Toofan which was one of the Bollywood movies packed with maximum baddies? Accused of being loosely inspired by Sholay, Aandhi - Toofan had Shatrughan Sinha, Mithun Chakraborty, Meenakshi Seshadri, Hema Malini, and Shashi Kapoor in the lead cast while the baddies were played by Danny Denzongpa, Mazhar Khan, Mac Mohan, Sudhir, Tej Sapru, Manik Irani and others.

4. Loha (1987)

Another popular release that features among Bollywood movies with maximum baddies was Raj N. Sippy’s Loha (1987) which starred Dharmendra, Shatrughan Sinha, Karan Kapoor, Madhavi, Mandakini in the main cast. The action revenge drama had an ensemble cast of many villains including Amrish Puri, Goga Kapoor, Kader Khan, Praveen Kumar, Roopesh Kumar, Mac Mohan, Yunus Parvez, Tej Sapru, Joginder, Sudhir, Bhushan Tiwari, Shashi Kiran, Ramesh Goyal, Bhushan Jeevan, Randhir Singh, Gorilla, and others.

5. Tridev (1989)

Rajiv Rai’s multi-starrer action thriller drama Tridev too joins the list of Bollywood movies with multiple villain characters. The cast had the then top stars of Bollywood including Sunny Deol, Naseeruddin Shah, Jackie Shroff, Sangeeta Bijlani, Sonam, Madhuri Dixit and Anupam Kher but the list of villains was huge headed by Amrish Puri who played the dreaded Bhujang. The other names who played villains in the film were Raza Murad, Dalip Tahil, Sharat Saxena, Tej Sapru, Dan Dhanoa, Rajesh Vivek, Ajit Vachani, Gavin Packard, Shamsuddin, Jaspal Sandhu, etc.

6. Izzat (1991)

Producer Salim Akhtar’s action revenge drama film Izzat directed by Ashok Gaikwad was one of the sleeper hits of the 1991 that was packed with a number of villains. Starring Jackie Shroff, Sangeeta Bijlani, Shakti Kapoor, and Amjad Khan in the main cast, the villains list included actors such as Ishrat Ali, Sadashiv Amrapurkar, Gulshan Grover, Raza Murad, Paresh Rawal, Amjad Khan, Dan Dhanoa, Yunus Parvez, Bharat Kapoor, Harish Patel, Brando Bakshi and others.

Talk about Hindi movies with multiple villain characters and we have yet another Rajiv Rai film on the list that was Vishwatma. Vishwatma was close on the heels of his earlier success Tridev which also almost had the same star cast comprising Sunny Deol, Naseeruddin Shah, Chunky Pandey, Divya Bharti, Sonam, Jyotsna Singh in the lead while Amrish Puri played Ajgar Jurrat while the pack of baddies included Mahesh Anand, Kiran Kumar, Tej Sapru, Dan Dhanoa, Anand Balraj, Gulshan Grover, Rajesh Vivek, Dalip Tahil, Raza Murad, Sanjay Kohli, Mangal Dhillon and Vishwajeet Pradhan and others.

8. Police Officer (1992)

Another Hindi movie with the most villains has got to be director Ashok Gaikwad’s Police Officer starring Jackie Shroff and Karisma Kapoor along with Aruna Irani and Tinu Anand. The revenge action drama was sort of a sequel to his Izzat released the previous year and comprised almost of the same cast. This film too had a volley of baddies lined up in the form of Paresh Rawal, Sadashiv Amrapurkar, Goga Kapoor, Gulshan Grover, Ajeet, Mac Mohan, Ishrat Ali, Joginder, Raza Murad, etc. The movie went on to become one of the top grosser of 1992.

9. Phool Aur Angaar (1993)

Producer Salim Akhtar and Ashok Gaikwad’s third masala potboiler in the offing was the Mithun Chakraborty and Shanti Priya starrer Phool Aur Angaar released in 1993. The story was that of a simple college lecturer who gets entangled with a student of his who happens to be a notorious gangster’s son. As expected, the film had a good number of baddies pitted against Mithun Chakraborty that included the likes of Paresh Rawal, Nimai Bali, Prem Chopra, Ajinkya Deo, Bob Christo, Goga Kapoor, Feroz Khan (Arjun), Ankush Mohite, Raza Murad, Amrit Pal, Mahavir Shah, and Bhushan Tiwari, etc.

Another Salim Akhtar and Ashok Gaikwad film with the most villains was the 1993 action drama Aadmi starring Mithun Chakraborty and Gautami in the lead. The story was that of a simple man Vijay (Mithun Chakraborty) who is falsely implicated for being a terrorist following which his family is killed to death. Vijay seeks his revenge by eliminating all the villains one by one. The group of villains was played by Ajeet, Paresh Rawal, Raza Murad, Vikas Anand, Feroz Khan (Arjun), Gulshan Grover, Dalip Tahil, Mushtaq Khan, Mac Mohan, Tej Sapru, Rana Jung Bahadur, Mahavir Shah, Bob Christo and Dinesh Anand, etc.

Rajiv Rai’s Mohra starring Akshay Kumar, Suniel Shetty, Raveena Tandon, Sadashiv Amrapurkar, Kulbhushan Kharbanda, Avtar Gill, Harish Patel, Priya Tendulkar, and Yunus Parvez is also rated among Bollywood films with multiple villain characters. This blockbuster movie of 1994 had various villains played by Naseeruddin Shah, Paresh Rawal, Raza Murad, Gulshan Grover, Vinay Sapru, Dinesh Anand, Razak Khan, Tej Sapru, Vishwajeet Pradhan, Kunika, Sanjeev Chitre, Arif Khan, Gavin Packard and John Gabriel, etc.

Last but not least comes Rajiv Rai’s musical suspense thriller Gupt featuring Bobby Deol, Manisha Koirala, Kajol, Om Puri, Raj Babbar, Sadashiv Amrapurkar, Priya Tendulkar and Kulbhushan Kharbanda. Produced under the banner of Gulshan Rai’s Trimurti Films, the film had a gamut of villains played by Paresh Rawal, Dalip Tahil, Prem Chopra, Sharat Saxena, Mukesh Rishi, Harish Patel, Vishwajeet Pradhan, Tej Sapru, Raza Murad, Dinesh Anand, Anil Yadav, Sidhhant, and John Gabriel.

13. Aankhen (1993)

David Dhawan’s 1993 multi-starrer blockbuster Aankhen starring Govinda, Chunky Pandey, Shilpa Shirodkar, Ritu Shivpuri, Raageshwari, Kader Khan and Sadashiv Amrapurkar had a volley of villains. The action-packed comedy-drama was packed with a number of known villains comprising Raj Babbar, Shakti Kapoor, Mahavir Shah, Gulshan Grover, Radha Seth, Raza Murad, Mac Mohan, Sudhir, Gavin Packard, Tinnu Verma and others.

Rajkumar Santoshi’s superhit action-drama Ghatak starring Sunny Deol, Meenakshi Seshadri, Amrish Puri also boasted of many baddies headed by Kaatya played by Danny Denzongpa who was accompanied by Mukesh Rishi, Brij Gopal, Deep Dhillon, Tinnu Verma, Anil Yadav, Harish Patel, Shiva Rindani, Tinnu Anand and others.

15. Choron Ki Baaraat (1980)

Harmesh Malhotra’s 1980 action thriller Choron Ki Baaraat was yet another Bollywood film that was stuffed with many villains including the likes of Ajit, Jeevan, Ranjeet, Danny Denzongpa, Ram Mohan, B. M. Vyas, Sudhir, Roopesh Kumar and others. The lead pair consist of Shatrughan Sinha and Neetu Singh while it had some decent music by Laxmikant – Pyarelal.
