Nitin Chandrakant Desai was an art director, production designer, producer and director who was active in Hindi as well as Marathi film industries. He started his career in 1993 with Bhookamp and thereafter worked with Bollywood’s top directors in his twenty-year-long career including Ashutosh Gowarikar, Vidhu Vinod Chopra, Rajkumar Hirani and Sanjay Leela Bhansali, etc. Some of his notable works have been in popular films like 1942: A Love Story, Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, Mission Kashmir, Lagaan, Devdas, The Legend of Bhagat Singh, Munnabhai MBBS, Swades, Mangal Pandey, and Jodhaa Akbar, etc. He was a recipient of 4 National awards and 3 Filmfare awards. He turned film producer with Chandrakant Productions' Desh Devi, and directed two films in Marathi – Hello Jai Hind! and Ajintha. He was the owner of the ND Studios at Karjat where he breathed his last on 02 August 2023.
