Abhas Kumar Ganguly, better known as Kishore Kumar, was one of the finest and most dynamic actors and singers of Bollywood. His brothers, Ashok Kumar and Anoop Kumar were also important actors of their times, and the three brothers were the most important members of the cinematic Ganguly family, who had connections with other important clans of Bollywood. The recipient of several accolades, Kishore Kumar started his career with the 1946 film Shikari. He became a notable actor after the success of his movies like Ladki (1953), Naukari (1954), Chalti Ka Naam Gaadi (1958), Jhumroo (1961), Half Ticket (1962), Pyar Kiye Jaa (1966), etc. During the 1970s and 1980s, he was the leading playback singer in Bollywood, noted for his yodeling and ability to sing in different voices. Some evergreen songs sung by him include - ‘Mere Saamne Wali Khidki Mein’, ‘Chookar Mere Mann Ko’, ‘Chingari Koi Bhadke’, etc. In 1950, he married actress Ruma Ghosh, with whom he had a son, singer Amit Kumar, and the two separated in 1958. His second marriage was to actress Madhubala, which was childless and ended in 1969. Later, he married Yogeeta Bali. His fourth marriage was with actress Leena Chandavarkar, with whom he had a son, singer Sumit Kumar.
